UAE President Sheikh Khalifa laid to rest


DUBAI – UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was laid to rest on Friday (May 13) following a funeral prayer at Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed the First Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has been declared Ruler of Abu Dhabi following his brother’s death, performed the funeral prayer for the late Sheikh Khalifa.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and members of the Al Nahyan family carried Sheikh Khalifa’s body to his final resting place at Al Bateen Cemetery in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Khalifa died on Friday. He was 73.

The UAE has declared a 40-day mourning period. A three-day suspension of work in private and public offices will begin on Saturday (May 14). Schools will remain closed until Tuesday.
