Tirana-Abu Dhabi Wizz Air flight struck by lightning after takeoff

On Monday, Wizz Air flight WAZ 7092 was struck by lightning after taking off from Tirana, Albania. The plane reversed course and safely landed back in Albania.

Passengers on the Albania-Abu Dhabi flight have shared their traumatic experience when a bolt of lightning struck their plane just a few moments after they took off.

After the lightning strike, the passengers reportedly heard a loud noise and screams.

One of the passengers, Sansrita Moitra said, “I was in the seat 3F looking out the window.”
“After about 20 to 30 minutes there was a thunderbolt with lightning. There was a blue-colored light and then it turned to yellow. The whole sky lit up,” she recalled.

Later on, the pilot announced over the PA system that the plane had been hit and that they will determine the next actions shortly.

The pilot then decided to return to Tirana five minutes after his announcement.

A Wizz Air said in a statement that “the aircraft landed safely in Tirana. The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority at all times.” BKM/ Expat Media
