DUBAI – A day ahead of the UAE’s 49th National Day, footage emerged on Tuesday (December 1) of the late Diego Maradona’s last UAE National Day celebration in 2019.
“We recall the participation of the late Argentine football legend, Diego Maradona, in previous Dubai Sports Council National Day celebrations,” according to the Dubai Sports Council.
In the video clip, Maradona was seen participating in a traditional Emirati dance called Al Ayyala.
Holding a thin bamboo cane, Maradona is seen happily moving in unison with a group of men during the dance in last year’s National Day celebration with the Dubai Sports Council. He later signed a poster.
Maradona died of a heart attack in his home in Argentina on November 25. He was 60.
Thousands of fans paid tribute to the football legend following his death. In Dubai, his images were projected on to the Burj Khalifa in towering tribute. Watch it here
