The much-awaited verdict in the UAE’s biggest terrorism trial will be handed out on July 10, the court has announced.

The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal’s State Security Chamber will deliver the verdict against 84 defendants accused of establishing and managing a secret terrorist organization in the UAE.

Charges against the 84, also known as the “Justice and Dignity Committee” organization, include fundraising for the terrorist organization and planning terrorism acts, according to state news agency WAM.

The verdict on July 10 will follow a 10-day window for defence lawyers to present their closing arguments.

The group has been accused of crimes related to establishing and managing a terrorist group as well as money laundering. The Public Prosecution is demanding maximum punishments, which include the death penalty and life in jail.

Evidences given by the Public Prosecution in the ongoing trial include confessions of one of the defendants that the organisation studied events coinciding with the “Arab Spring Revolutions” in order to create the same scenario in the UAE.

The court also heard a confession from one of the accused that the terrorist group “Justice and Dignity Committee” was created to “instigate a violent revolution” and spark deadly clashes with security personnel in the UAE that would inspire deadly mass protests. The defendant said that the secret terror group planned to stage a public protest in a popular area in the UAE and has established teams with specific tasks to carry out the plan. ICA/Expat Media
