UAE President pardons 1,018 prisoners ahead of National Day

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pardoned 1,018 prisoners ahead of the country’s National Day celebrations.

“The pardon reflects His Highness’ keenness to provide the released inmates with an opportunity to start a new life and integrate once again into their families and communities,” according to state news agency WAM.

The pardoned prisoners are from various nationalities and jails in the UAE. Authorities have begun necessary procedures to ensure that the prisoners are freed so they can return to their families as soon as possible.

The UAE celebrates National Day on December 2, which is a public holiday. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced this week that December 2, 3 and 4 will be a paid public holiday for private sector employees. ICA/Expat Media
