A passenger has been caught hiding opium in the soles of his shoes at the Dubai airport, according to Dubai Customs.
The incident happened recently and was among the number of of illegal drugs detected and seized by Dubai Customs at the airport in recent days.
Mohammed Al Ghaffari, Executive Director for Human Resources, Finance and Administration Division at Dubai Customs, said that inspectors are heavily trained to detect illegal shipments, and also use advanced X-ray scanning devices to stop smugglers in their tracks.
Al Ghaffari said other recent seizures included 2,256 grams of cocaine that an African passenger hid at the bottom of his bag and also in his shoes.
