DUBAI – A 24-year-old Indian woman has been arrested at Dubai International Airport and is now on trial after police found a bag of hashish in her luggage.
The woman, who arrived in Dubai on a tourist visa, claimed that an unknown person gave her the bag of drugs weighing nearly 5.2kg.
Her trial began at the Dubai Court of First Instance this week.
An Emirati policeman testified that during interrogation, the woman told police that she was instructed to meet someone at a hotel in Dubai’s Naif area to hand over the package.
Dubai Police set up an entrapment operation and two Sri Lankan men who arrived at the hotel to receive the drugs from her were arrested.
The men claimed that they were instructed by an unknown person to collect the hashish from the woman.
At the Dubai Court of First Instance, the woman was charged with drug possession and drug smuggling, while the two men were charged with drug possession and promotion of drugs.
The hearing resumes on April 25. ICA/Expat Media
