Hotel review: Studio One Hotel in Dubai

We stayed in the trendiest hotel in Dubai and almost didn’t want to leave! It was like a movie. Literally.

Everything at Studio One Hotel is a nod to its location in Dubai Studio City, a hub for Dubai’s media, music and creative production companies.

We felt like children in a candy store exploring every corner of this very Instagrammable 141-room boutique hotel. The retro media vibe coupled with family-friendly service made our 48-hour stay perfect.

At the entrance, a stack of old TV sets played black and white movies while a Storm Trooper waited for the next selfie at the sitting area. From the high ceiling, it was raining small people in floating umbrellas, like a scene from Mary Poppins. Near the reception, Yoda was pointing at an 80s-style telephone, as if daring us to think outside the box.

The hotel has relax, play and work, figured out. In our room, On Air recording boxes function as door signs, while screen reel murals and a large Audrey Hepburn pop-art cover the walls. The carpet looked like a page from a Scrabble game, while on the study table was a cute pencil holder in the shape of an old cassette tape.

Food and features

This hotel is also a certified foodie’s destination. There’s the Italian bistro, Larte, The Irish Village, Aprons and Hammers, Mr. Miyagi’s, El Chapo’s Tacos, Maine Street Eatery and Rags To Riches.

During our stay, we dined at Larte. You can enjoy authentic Italian dishes by Chef Iva Rospi while soaking in the contemporary Italian ambiance of this laidback all-day dining bistro and social hub. Prices are reasonable too, such as their pocket-friendly weekday two-course lunch for just Dh69.

If you’re in creative mode, there are workstations and meeting rooms named after movie studios. The verdict? Next time we have writer’s block, we know where to go.

What to do in Dubai Studio City

Watch a movie at Studio One. Thursdays are ladies’ nights with food and bubbly for Dh159, and Fridays are for families for Dh39.

Join a pizza making class. Every Sunday at 1:30pm and 3:30pm, try your hand at making fresh Italian pizza at Larte while enjoying some drinks! Starts at Dh79.

Visit Dubai Miracle Garden. This flowery wonderland is just a few minutes drive away from Studio City, and definitely worth a visit now that it is open for its new season.
