Philippine Airlines’ top executive shares his favourite travel hacks

It’s easy to be a serial traveller when you are in Josh Vasquez’s shoes. He is, after all, Philippine Airlines’ regional head for the Middle East.

The Dubai-based Middle East boss of the Philippines’ flag carrier says he has worked for the airline in the last 22 years, traveling at least three times per year. He shares his journey, as well as travel hacks in this candid Q&A.

What do you love about PAL?

The “buong pusong alaga” (whole-hearted) service. We bridge Filipinos to their families and it is important that we offer affordable prices. We also offer a free shuttle service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and a generous baggage allowance.

Tell us about your first plane ride.

I travelled on Philippine Airlines to Hong Kong and visited Disneyland. It was a dream come true!

Do you have a preferred seat?

I’m always an aisle seat traveller because I want to see what is happening in the aircraft, from the front to the rear of the cabin.

On which class do you travel?

Economy and business class.

Swap seats with a stranger?

Yes. My parents always told me always choose kindness. By doing so, nothing will ever go wrong.

What is in your luggage?

I bring two cameras and extra clothes. I also make sure I leave room for gifts and pasalubong.

What can you not travel without?

I always travel with chocolates.

What’s in your travel bucket list?

Africa and Tibet.

Best travel tip.

Plan your travel early. I plan my travel at least four months before the flight. This gives me the chance to get cheaper flights and hotel stays.

Watch out for the new PAL Holidays website, a one-stop-shop to book hotels, transportation and tours. This story also appears in the Expat Media Special Edition Magazine
