Dubai’s ONPASSIVE Metro Station has been renamed Garmin Metro Station under a 10-year naming rights agreement.
Dubai Metro commuters will soon need to update the name of one of the Red Line stations, with ONPASSIVE Metro Station renamed Garmin Metro Station under a new 10-year naming rights agreement.
The station, located along Sheikh Zayed Road near the Al Manara Street junction, serves Al Quoz and surrounding areas. The station will carry the Garmin name for the next decade.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the station’s naming rights to Garmin, the global navigation and technology brand. The agreement was signed by AMIT Retail, Garmin’s sole distributor in the UAE, in partnership with Hypermedia and in the presence of Mada Media, which manages Dubai’s out-of-home advertising sector.
Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, said the agreement demonstrates the continued appeal of the Metro naming rights programme to major brands. “Garmin’s joining to the Dubai Metro Station Naming Rights Initiative reaffirms its success in attracting leading brands from a diverse range of business sectors in the local market,” Kalbat said.
Mansoor Al Sabahi, CEO of Mada Media, described Garmin’s participation as a milestone for the initiative. “Through this agreement, Garmin will be the first global brand to secure this distinguished investment opportunity, marking an important milestone in the continued success of the initiative,” he said.
A Dubai Metro station with several names
Garmin is not the first name associated with the station. The Red Line stop was originally known as Al Safa. It was later renamed Noor Bank before taking the ONPASSIVE name in 2023.
Dubai’s Metro station naming programme allows companies to associate their brands with stations as part of a wider public-private partnership model.
The initiative was introduced by RTA in 2008 and has since allowed companies to secure naming rights to selected stations on the Red and Green lines. ICA/Expat Media
