Dubai Mall’s extension, the Dubai Mall Zabeel, is expected to gain more footfall as shoppers look for free parking when Dubai Mall rolls out paid parking on July 1.

Dubai Mall announced on Wednesday (June 19) that paid parking will be enforced in its Grand Parking, Cinema Parking, and Fashion Parking areas. The mall will begin charging by the hour after a complimentary parking period of four hours per day at these parking zones.

However, parking will be free at the mall’s extension, the Dubai Mall Zabeel, which is connected to Dubai Mall via an airconditioned footbridge. Parking is also free at Dubai Mall’s Fountain Views parking area.

Opened in 2019, Dubai Mall Zabeel houses more than 60 stores and is connected across Dubai Mall along Financial Centre Road via a 200-metre-long footbridge.

Michelle Pereira, a Dubai resident and avid Dubai Mall shopper, told Expat Media she will likely park in Dubai Mall Zabeel or Dubai Mall Fountain Views parking to avoid fees.

“I will definitely miss free parking in Dubai Mall as this is one of the reasons I stay there for hours, so I will either cut my visit to under four hours, or go to the free parking areas,” Pereira told Expat Media.

“On the downside, the Dubai Mall parking scheme will mean extra fees for shoppers, but it will surely drive more visitors to the nearby Dubai Mall Zabeel, which isn’t currently as busy as Dubai Mall,” Pereira said.

Neil Andaya, another Dubai resident, says he will inevitably be having more visits to Dubai Mall Zabeel. “I’m considering it as an alternative if I am looking for free parking to Dubai Mall. It’s just across the street and there’s an airconditioned walkway I can take,” Andaya said.
