Chinese gang jailed over Dh580,000 Dubai villa robbery

DUBAI – A five-member Chinese gang has been jailed for stealing jewellery and watches worth Dh580,000 from a Dubai villa.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the five Chinese men to three years in jail. They will be deported after serving their jail term.

The villa break-in and robbery happened in January. Police said the gang climbed into the villa in Al Qusais and broke a window to enter the villa, which is owned by an Emirati on holiday abroad.

“I returned the next day and found that the safe containing jewellery and expensive watches was missing,” the Emirati villa owner testified.

The Chinese gang stole 34 gold bracelets, 53 gold and diamond rings, 81 gold earrings, 18 gold necklaces and 55 luxury watches. Police were later able to recover all the stolen items.

Police said the gang members admitted to breaking into the villa and stealing valuables. They also told police that they had monitored the area on a rented vehicle to pick a target. ICA/Expat Media
