DUBAI – There’s an unmistakeable glow in Pia Wurtzbach’s eyes as we mention Jeremy Jauncey, travel entrepreneur and her hunky new beau.
“It’s been very kilig so far,” the former Miss Universe told Expatmedia.net in an interview at Edge Creekside Hotel in Dubai on Thursday (December 3). Watch the full video interview:
Kilig is a Filipino word used to describe that feeling of elation when you’re in love. Pia once teased Jauncey, a Scotsman, about it in an Instagram video. The two have been together for almost a year.
“That was one of the things I tried to teach him, a few Filipino words. It’s funny because he doesn’t know what it means but he’s kilig anyway. Definitely, we have a lot of kilig moments,” said Pia.
“He loves that I’m very Filipino. He finds my accent very endearing. Whereas maybe in the Philippines they would have preferred me to have a more American accent. But he loves my Filipino accent,” Pia told Expatmedia.net.
What is Jauncey’s favourite Filipino word? “Mahal.. Mahal kita (I love you). He’s written me notes before with mahal kita, so he knows what it means,” Pia said. “He uses kilig, too,” she added.
The stunning former beauty queen is in Dubai for a photoshoot with Xpedition magazine—while donning the creations of Amato Couture— and to receive the magazine’s award for Woman of the Year for her humanitarian work.
Even though the lockdown in the Philippines kept her mostly in her apartment in Manila since March, Pia had been busy helping raise aid for those affected by the coronavirus. She also recently raised funds to help typhoon victims in the country.
But that didn’t mean love had to take a backseat. “We didn’t see each other for five months during the pandemic but I’m glad that didn’t affect our relationship. We still spoke [with each other] everyday,” she said.
After her trip to Dubai, Pia said she is flying to London. “I will be spending the holidays with Jeremy and his family,” she said. It will be their first Christmas together.
Pia also said she and Jauncey are planning to travel together in 2021 “if it’s safe”. She plans to bring him to the Philippines with her.
The globetrotting Jauncey, founder of creative agency Beautiful Destinations, has been to the Philippines several times, but hasn’t travelled to the country with Pia.
“I want to take him around the Philippines, but this time I’ll be the tour guide,” Pia said. PIA/Expat Media
