The world’s largest ruby has returned to Dubai ahead of its auction in New York on June 8.
Sotheby’s unveiled the new crafted gemstone, called Estrela de FURA, at the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) on Monday (May 22). It was first unveiled in Dubai in its rough form in September last year.
“After being unveiled in Dubai last autumn as an astonishing 101 carat rough, it is especially thrilling to see Estrela de FURA 55.22 in its newly crafted state and return triumphantly to the DMCC as the world’s largest and most valuable ruby to ever come to market,” said Katia Nounou Boueiz, Head of Sotheby’s UAE.
Estrela de FURA, a 55.22 carat stone, is the largest and most valuable ruby to ever appear at auction. It is expected to fetch more than $30 million (Dh110.2 million) in auction.
Also unveiled at Sotheby’s DDE showroom was the world’s most vivid pink diamond called Eternal Pink. The diamond is estimated to fetch more than $35 million (Dh128.5) at the New York auction. ICA/Expat Media
