UAE study reveals which jobs will be extinct

A study commissioned by the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has found that 40 percent of jobs today are expected to be replaced in the next ten years.

This means that human labour will be replaced by automation where these jobs are concerned, according to the study in MOHRE’s Labour Market magazine.

Which jobs are going to be replaced or automated in the next decade? Those in production, office support, as well as sales and retail trading, according to the study.

This is due to developments in e-commerce and online shopping, as well as advanced manufacturing.

According to an Al Khaleej report, as many as 114,000 jobs could become automated in the near future, including cashiers, bank tellers, textile workers, travel agents and fast food cooks.

The number of jobs that will be replaced by automation is expected to go up by 2030. It is estimated that by 2025, some 85 million jobs will be replaced.

The good news, however, is that 97 million new roles would be created as 34 percent of companies said they are looking to hire people with skills to adopt to technology. ICA/Expat Media
