DUBAI – Do you remember Mandy Moore’s bucket list in the movie, A Walk To Remember? You could say we checked four of our own just by staying at Four Points by Sheraton Downtown Dubai!
Expatmedia.net recently spent two nights at the four-star hotel in the heart of Dubai’s original downtown area, Bur Dubai. We were in for a nice surprise. Here’s a video tour:
We checked in a corner one-bedroom suite, which has a spacious bedroom, a functional mini kitchen, two bathrooms, a large living room and even its own luggage room.
If you are feeling cramped in your own apartment, I suggest you grab that suitcase and head here for a weekend staycation in the city. You don’t even have to pay an arm and a leg to fund your stay. Because the suite has its own electric stove, sink, a big refrigerator and a washer-dryer, it is perfect for visiting relatives and tourists who might want to save by doing their own cooking and laundry while on extended stays in the emirate.
If you prefer to have a grand vacation, you could always head to any of their F&B outlets and take advantage of their deals. Prices are quite affordable.
I also loved that the supermarket was just a five-minute drive away from the hotel, and that my happy place in Bur Dubai was also close. We revisited the electronic shops at Al Fahidi Street, and checked out the abra station before heading inside the Grand Souq Bur Dubai for some fun bargain hunt. More on that here
Now, back to that A Walk to Remember bucket list. Also known as how our hotel stay went.
Well, more or less! With Covid-19 in mind, the hotel management and staff really went great lengths to sanitize the place frequently—from the rooms to the restaurants. Glass barriers have been put up at the reception, and even the pen handed to me on check-in was sanitized. The steering wheel and driver’s seat of my car were also wrapped in plastic for sanitation when I left it for valet service. Very thoughtful touch.
My travel buddy, a light sleeper, said this was the first time she has ever stayed in any four-star hotel and had uninterrupted sleep throughout her stay. “It’s the bed. It’s super comfortable!” she said with a sheepish grin after waking up well after 10am, nearly missing breakfast again. Apparently, the hotel chain uses branded comfort beds that are “posturepedic” and multi-layered for comfort. My travel buddy wanted to bring one home with her.
It was definitely a Jamie Sullivan moment the minute I realized I could be in two places at once in their ground floor restaurants. After taking selfies at the cool bicycle rickshaw parked at the entrance, we stepped into the F&B haven shared by Centro Citta and Purani Dilli. We had one of the best Indian dishes from Purani Dilli, while we indulged in creamy Italian pasta at Centro Citta. The taste was spot on, the prices reasonable and servings big enough to share.
Not that there’s anyone we didn’t like at Four Points by Sheraton Downtown Dubai—because everyone was just friendly and helpful—but we made some new friends with the extra-helpful and friendly crew at their sports bar and restaurant Yesterday Restaurant and Pub. Sharmaine guided us through the menu (and the current offers), while her colleauge showed us around some of the highlights at the restopub (two billiard rooms that Efren Reyes will definitely love), and a cool tunnel where you can watch games, have a drink, eat or just sit back and do a selfie.
