Thousands of Filipinos flocked to the Dubai World Trade Center on Sunday (June 26) for the Kalayaan 2022, the largest Philippine Independence Day celebration in the emirate.

They were joined by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Philippine Consul General Renato Dueñas Jr. as well as officials and staff of the Philippine Consulate General Dubai and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Dubai.

In his speech, Sheikh Nahyan praised the resilience of the Filipinos and the strong friendship and ties between the UAE and Philippines. “We congratulate the Philippines on its impressive progress in all fields and its growing importance on the global stage,” Sheikh Nahyan said. “In my mind, celebrating the 124th Philippine Independence Day here in the United Arab Emirates is a celebration of the remarkable Filipino community that constitutes a significant segment of our global culture,” he added.

Filipinos packed Hall 2 of the Dubai World Trade Center for the largest in-person celebration in Dubai of the Philippine Independence Day. The event is organised by the Philippine Business Council Dubai and Northern Emirates and Emirates Loves Philippines.

A full-day of events has been scheduled until 8pm, including a concert by Emirati singer Alira on the main stage at 4:20pm, followed by actor Carlo Aquino. ICA/Expat Media
