UAE visit visas: 7 recent changes to rules

The UAE visa system has undergone sweeping reforms since October, with more rules announced this January. Here’s a list of seven recent changes to the rules on visit visa.

Increase in UAE visa fee

A visit visa will now cost Dh370 instead of Dh270 as the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) increased the fees. The fee increase also applies to Emirates IDs, which now cost Dh370 instead of Dh270.

No visit visa extensions from within UAE

Visit visa holders who want to extend or renew the validity of their visa must exit the UAE and re-enter on a new visa. The option to extend the visa from within the country has been scrapped.

60-day visa issuance resumes

The UAE has resumed the issuance of 60-day visit visas. Currently, 30-day visit visas and 60-day visit visas are being issued to visitors.

UAE multi-entry tourist visa

The multi-entry tourist visa does not require a sponsor and it allows the person to stay in the country up to 90 continuous days, which may be extended for a similar period, provided that the entire period of stay does not exceed 180 days in one year. It is valid for five years, and requires proof of having a bank balance of $4,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies during the last six months prior to submitting the application. Read more

UAE visit visa or entry permit to visit relatives or friends

As per the current amendment, a visitor can apply for this entry permit if he or she is a relative or friend of a UAE citizen or resident. It does not require a sponsor or a host. The relative or friend can then sponsor the visitor by paying a refundable deposit of Dh1,000.

Overstay fine

Visitors who overstay their visit visa must pay an overstay fine before exiting the country. Those with Dubai-issued visas that have expired must also obtain an out pass or leave permit at an additional cost before exiting the country.

UAE job exploration visa

The job exploration visa is an option for those wanting to visit the UAE for up to 90 days. The visa can be applied through the ICP website. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and meet the skill classification levels of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre). The fees include a Dh1,025 refundable security deposit and insurance. Costs as of January 2022: 60-day visa (Dh1,495); 90-day visa (Dh1,655); 120-day visa (Dh1,815). ICA/Expat Media
