UAE clarifies new rule on remote work visa

Foreigners who want to apply for a remote work visa in the UAE do not need to be in the country to apply for it and can do so online, according to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).

According to the ICP, foreigners can apply for the visa on the ICP website or its smart app UAEICP. Once the entry permit is issued, the applicant must enter the UAE within 60 days from the date of issuance to complete procedures for them to be issued a residence visa.

The entry permit will become invalid if the applicant fails to enter the UAE within the 60-day window, according to the ICP.

How to apply for UAE remote work visa

– Register on the ICA website icp.gov.ae or app (UAEICP)
– Go to Smart Services channel and log in
– Choose Remote Work Visa UAE option
– Upload required documents
– Pay application fee of Dh300

What is the UAE remote work visa?

The UAE’s new remote work visa provides holders with self-sponsorship, allowing them to stay in the UAE. The new visa took effect on September 5 last year with the aim of attracting talents from around the world.

Under the remote work visa, foreigners can stay in the UAE under self-sponsorship and work remotely from the country. It is considered the first of its kind in the country and is valid for one year.

Visa holders will be able to stay in the UAE while working for companies abroad, and also rent a house in the country, open a bank account, sponsor family members and send their children to school. Individuals will also be able to enjoy the UAE’s no income tax policy.

What are requirements for UAE remote work visa?

To qualify for the remote work visa, employees need to show a valid employment contract showing they are a remote worker for a company outside the UAE, and their salary must be at least $5,000 (Dh18,350). The latest salary slip and bank statements for the preceding three months are also required. Applicant must have a passport valid for a minimum of six months, recent coloured photo and valid insurance covering their stay in the UAE.

Approved entry permits will be sent via the email registered by the applicant. Applicants will be declined in 30 days in case the application is returned due to insufficient requirements. It will also be declined if the application is returned three times due to incomplete data or documents. Fees and financial guarantees are refundable. ICA/Expat Media
