DUBAI – An electronic version of the Emirates ID is now being issued by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA).
According to the ICA, the e-Emirates ID will be automatically generated and is considered valid like the printed ID.
The e-version of the Emirates ID will be made available on the ICA UAE Smart app and can be used until the physical cards are printed.
The e-version of the Emirates ID is part of ICA’s transition to a “new generation of identity cards and passport”, according to the authority.
It features a QR code, which facilitates its reading for official purposes at government departments.
Last year, it was announced that current Emirates IDs and Emirati passport will be replaced in phases with new generation designs with additional security features. ICA/Expat Media
