Made in UAE super face mask in development

DUBAI – Researchers in the UAE have developed a prototype of a biodegradable and reusable face mask that is also anti-viral: the navamask.

A team from Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi came up with the fully reusable and eco-friendly face mask, which has nanofibers that have strong anti-microbial properties.

The navamask can be reused several times before disposal. The mask is the result of a collaboration between Khalifa University and University of Salerno in Italy. It has yet to be launched in the market.

Dr. Arif Al Hammadi, executive vice president at Khalifa University, said the face mask was developed following the university’s funding of 14 projects to combat coronanavirus.

The mask has filters that provide protection, avoid skin irritation and has strong anti-microbial properties remove 99 percent of bacteria, researchers said.
