UAE law to apply on Emirati murders abroad

DUBAI – The UAE has updated its Federal Crime and Punishment law to hold murderers of Emiratis or UAE citizens abroad criminally liable under UAE law.

The ratified law will be fully implemented on January 2, 2022, after President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan approved wide-ranging reforms of the UAE’s legal system on November 27.

One of the most important provisions newly introduced by the Crime and Punishment Law is that the law is applied to anyone who commits, or participates in, a premeditated murder that occurs against a citizen of the UAE even if the crime takes place outside the country.

Details about the new provisions of the law are expected to be released soon. ICA/Expat Media
