DUBAI – “Come back again soon. We have evening happy hour and live acoustics on some nights,” the smiling waitress at O’Learys told me and my dining partner.
We’ve just finished a wonderful evening at the Boston-themed sports bar at the Hilton Dubai Creek and were already planning our next visit.
Here’s our review of this newest hangout in Deira:
As soon as we sat down, we were served popcorn. It was the perfect pair to the sport setting, with our table facing a TV screen showing an American football game.
There’s no mistaking the American DNA of this sports bar, not just in the décor but also in its range of all-American food and drinks. There are ribs, burgers, chicken wings, nachos and quesadillas. There is also grilled surf and turf and salads.
We loved their Hat-Trick Combo that allowed us to create our own tester platter to share: perfectly fried calamares, jalapeno poppers and mozzarella sticks, with cheesy quesadillas and wonderfully barbecued chicken wings.
For mains, we tried their rib eye and jumbo prawns. Juicy perfection, straight off the grill. The steak was perfectly medium rare, well browned on the outside and pink at the centre. The jumbo prawns were simply irresistible with their lightly charred smokiness.
Servings were also generous that by the end of it, we almost didn’t have room for desert. But with enough egging on from the staff, we were finally convinced to try their Mexican Fried Ice Cream, a vanilla ice cream goodness coated in deep fried batter, with caramel sauce, whipped cream and cherry on top. Rate: 4.5/5
We were pleasantly surprised to find that the prices at O’Learys are affordable, considering its five-star ambiance and service. Take, for example, the Hat-Trick Combo to share for only Dh75. The rib eye was Dh125 while the jumbo prawns were Dh130. Drinks were another steal, starting at Dh20. The divine deserts also cost an average of Dh35. Rate: 5/5
Apart from a surly waiter who served our main course without any cutlery or apology, we absolutely loved the rest of the service at O’Learys. The first and last half of the service were exceptional. The waitresses and manager were friendly, respectful, helpful but never intrusive. The pacing of service was also perfect, as if they could anticipate that we were ready for the next meal. Rate: 4/5
Our first impression of O’Learys was a sporty but classy restobar with an amazing ambiance. We loved the various seating options (you could sit by the bar, find a cozy nook, or get a table for two or more). We also loved the lighting and low decibels that actually allowed us to appreciate the plating of our meal and have a decent conversation. We also loved the sports memorabilia on the wall, plus the TV screens showing the latest live sports. The only thing that bothered us during the experience was a rouge fly that was quickly dealt with by the restaurant manager. Rate: 4/5
Overall, we really loved this restobar and will definitely be coming back with a bigger party.
