Remote work, flexible hours allowed on Fridays in UAE

DUBAI – With the new UAE work week and weekend implemented since January 1, government employees in the country are allowed to work remotely and on flexible hours during Fridays.

According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, government employees with exceptional circumstances or with homes far from their workplace will be given priority to work from home on Fridays.

Under the new work system, government employees will work from 7:30am until 3:30pm from Monday to Thursday, and from 7:30am to 12pm on Friday.

The weekend in the UAE is now Saturday and Sunday, instead of Friday and Saturday.

Federal government offices can adopt flexible working hours and remote work on Fridays, but must ensure that at least 70 percent of employees are on site.

Employees must get their manager’s approval for remote work on Fridays.

The new work system is not mandatory for private sector companies, however, many have started to adapt to the new work week and weekend. ICA/Expat Media
