Philippines: Magnitude 4.4 quake hits Leyte

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reports that a shallow earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 occurred in the province of Leyte on Saturday morning.

The quake struck at 6:49 a.m. located 13 kilometers (miles) northwest of Merida, Leyte.

The tectonic tremor was felt at Intensity 4 in Merida town, including in Ormoc City and Isabel, Leyte.

An intensity 4 temblor is regarded as a “moderately strong” quake comparable to the trembling of a large truck passing by.

Aftershocks and structural damage are not expected, according to Phivolcs. BKM/ Expat Media
