Filipinos in the UAE are celebrating the 125th anniversary of Philippine independence with a full-day event on Saturday (June 10).

Philippine Independence Day is celebrated worldwide on June 12, but in Dubai, Kalayaan 2023 organiser Emirates Loves Philippines and presenter Infinite Communities Events have prepared a day-long celebration at the Dubai World Trade Centre on June 10. The Kalayaan 2023 runs from 8am to 8pm at Saeed Hall 1.

“This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating Talent, Unity & Diversity’, and we are excited to see Filipinos in the UAE uniting in celebration of everything that makes us great as a people,” Josie Conlu, Project Manager of The Love Company, parent company of Emirates Loves Philippines, told Expatmedia.net.

“Visitors will experience world class performances. This is the biggest, the grandest and the most anticipated community event of the year,” said Elena Cruz, founder of Infinite Communities.

Food, fun and free entrance

There will be an indoor bazaar featuring your favourite Filipino food and brands, while you soak in all the fun from the games, shows and activities happening every hour until closing time to celebrate Filipino talent, unity and diversity. The best part? Entrance is free!

Filipino stars are coming

Richard Gutierrez, Sue Ramirez and Sophia Andres will be flying in for a special performance that is going to cap the event. Get your cameras and smartphones ready to capture the star power.

Freebies and gifts

Organiser Emirates Loves Philippines told Expatmedia.net that there are lots of sponsors this year who will be giving away “amazing” prizes. Watch out for gifts from Dubai Police, Philippine Airlines and other partners.

Drum and lyre performances

Traditional meets modern on centerstage at this year’s Kalayaan event in Dubai, with Filipino dance groups from across the UAE to showcase Filipino folk dances, cultural dances, hip-hop and modern dance routines. Dance groups include G Swag Dance Crew, UAQ Filcom Dancers, Colours of Ajman, OPMMAD, RAK FilClub Dancers, Pinoy DXB Crew, UFCA, Lunhaw and Fujairah Filcom.
