Indian expat wins $1 million in Dubai draw

An Indian expatriate in the UAE won the grand prize of $1 million (Dh3.67 million) in the recent Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw.

Syed Ali Bathusha Thivansha’s ticket number 4392 was picked during the draw at the Dubai International Airport on Wednesday (September 13). He bought the ticket online on August 30.

Thivansha is the 215th Indian national to have won $1 million since the start of the Millennium Millionaire promotion in 1999. Indian nationals are the biggest buyers of tickets, according to Dubai Duty Free.

Meanwhile, Bishr Shiblaq, a 47-year-old German lawyer in Dubai, won a Mercedes Benz S500 with ticket number 0218 in the Finest Surprise Series 1851.

A UAE resident in the last 15 years, Shiblaq has been a regular participant in Dubai Duty Free’s promotion for eight years now. “I’m glad that after so many years of trying, I finally won!” he said.
