A family reunion turned into a tragic affair after a long-time Indian expatriate in Dubai died on the day his family arrived in the emirate to visit him for the first time.

Khaleej Times quoted social worker Ashraf Thamarassery as saying that the Indian expat was overjoyed to see his family but suffered a heart attack after he picked them up from the airport and they had lunch. He was rushed to the hospital where efforts to revive him failed.

The Indian man had lived in the UAE for more than 15 years, and it was his first time in years to be reunited with his family. He reportedly saved up for his family to visit him in Dubai.

The deceased Indian was repatriated within three days, and his funeral was held last week, according to officials. Details about his identity have been withheld. ICA/Expat Media
