DUBAI – A Filipina expatriate in the UAE is now Dh1 million richer after winning the grand prize in the Al Ansari Exchange Millionaire Draw on Tuesday (January 12).
Nina Elmina Sanchez’s name was drawn during the live online broadcast.
According to Al Ansari Exchange, Sanchez qualified for the draw after sending less than Dh200 home through the Al Ansari Exchange outlet in Mirdif City Centre. The 32-year-old sent the money to support her father in the Philippines.
Sanchez, who works as a receptionist at a hotel in Dubai, is the seventh person to become a millionaire through the draw.
“I have been in the UAE for a year only and the last thing I expected was to be become a millionaire. What a great start for 2021, thank you Al Ansari Exchange for giving me this opportunity and changing my life,” Sanchez said.
She initially thought it was a prank when she received the call informing her that she had won a million dirhams. The Filipina said the news of her big win “feels like a dream”.
Sanchez, who moved to Dubai just last year, said she will use the prize money to support her 12-year-old son and her parents in the Philippines.
The Filipina has been trying to make ends meet with her monthly salary of Dh2,000 in Dubai, most of which she has been able to send home after getting help from her family and friends in the emirate. ICA/Expat Media
