Expat in Dubai fined Dh5,000 over face mask fail

DUBAI – An expatriate in Dubai was recently fined Dh5,000 for not wearing a face mask at her workplace, Expatmedia.net learnt on Monday (May 17).

The Filipina (who requested anonimity), said she was fined on-the-spot at her office in Dubai Gold Souq by a policeman who also confiscated her Emirates ID.

She also received a notification on her mobile phone informing her of the Dh5,000 fine.

“I didn’t expect the fine to be that big,” she said. She hopes the fine will be lowered since she is an employee at the store.

According to the Public Prosecution for Emergencies, Crises and Disasters, a fine of Dh5,000 will be imposed on companies or people in charge where employees do not wear face masks, while a fine of Dh500 will be imposed on employees who fail to wear face masks at their office.
