DUBAI – Starting on Monday (October 26), e-scooters will be available for rent or use in five areas in Dubai as the emirate begins a trial run of its e-scooter project.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the trial run will start in Al Rigga, 2nd of December Street, Dubai Internet City, Jumeirah Lake Towers and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.
People who own electric scooters will be able to legally use them in these designated areas only. The e-scooters must also be used on designated paths and not on pavements for pedestrians.
Hussain Al Banna, executive director of traffic at RTA, reiterated that the use of e-scooters is not permitted anywhere else in Dubai, adding that police will deal with violators.
E-scooters have been banned across Dubai since early 2019 amid safety concerns, with police doing random inspections and seizures in certain areas.
