Dubai: Thieves behind cases of bicycle thefts jailed, fined Dh6,000 each

Three persons were sentenced to one month in prison and fined Dh6,000 after being discovered in a series of bicycle thefts.

According to Dubai’s Criminal Court, the two African defendants stole two bicycles worth Dh6,000 from the European victim. They then sold them to the third accused, who bought them despite knowing they were stolen.

According to the case files, the robbers stole the bicycles from the victim’s basement parking area. They took advantage of the fact that there weren’t any pedestrians around; the first defendant stood guard while the second cut the chain that secured the two bikes. The two then seized them and ran away.

According to the investigations of the Public Prosecution, a CID team was organized after the victim reported his bicycles missing after storing them in the exact location for a month.

The squad eventually apprehended the accused, who were also found to be in possession of many more stolen bicycles and e-scooters.

The first defendant admitted to his involvement and outlined his and the second defendant’s roles. The third defendant also admitted to purchasing the stolen bicycles for Dh400 and selling them for Dh600 later. BKM/ Expat Media
