As continuous rain caused flooding in many parts of Dubai on Tuesday (April 16), the Dubai Municipality warned the public to avoid opening sewage drainage to drain floodwaters.

“Avoid opening sewage drains to drain water inside and outside home boundaries,” according to the Dubai Municipality, urging residents to call 800900 in case of emergencies.

Open sewage drains pose a safety risk to residents and pedestrians, as these can cause accidents if people or cars fall through the open manholes, which can be indistiguishable in a flooded street.

The municipality also gave safety tips to residents to avoid weather-related accidents.

With strong rain accompanied by winds of up to 70kmph, residents are urged to fasten any outdoor furniture securely and to clear any flying material inside the house or building.

“Remove tools and equipment from balconies and stay away from trees, unstable boards and construction sites,” the municipality advised. ICA/Expat Media
