Dubai Metro services were disrupted on Monday (July 8) evening after what the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported as a technical issue that left dozens of commuters stranded.

At 8:15pm, the RTA announced service delays between Equiti and Max stations due to the technical issue. The authority did not provide further details, but said that buses have been deployed to accommodate passengers at affected stations.

Commuters at JLT station reported service disruptions since 6pm. At Dubai Mall metro station, commuters were still waiting to board a lone train as of 9:55pm.

“There was one train on standby, and we weren’t allowed to board it until around 10pm. The train traveled to Business Bay station, and then after five minutes at that station, it returned to Dubai Mall station before stopping at Emirates Towers station at around 10:30pm. I waited for around 20 minutes for service to resume, but the train didn’t move, so I decided to leave and just take a taxi to my home in Deira,” Marjory (full name withheld) told Expat Media.

“Other commuters told me only a singe train was operational and that there were a lot of commuters waiting at Max metro station where they have been asked to disembark from the train,” she added. There was yet no update from the RTA on the status of the Dubai Metro service as of 11pm.  ICA/Expat Media
