Dubai Mall will undergo a dramatic expansion worth Dh1.5 billion that would see the biggest mall in Dubai get even bigger.

Dubai Mall will be expanded to have 240 new luxury stores and food and beverage outlets. It currently has more than 1,200 retail outlets and sits on 1.2 million sqm of space. Its size is equivalent to 200 football pitches.

Dubai Mall, located next to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, also features two major department stores and hundreds of food and beverage outlets. It also has a Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo and an Olympic-sized Dubai Ice Rink.

Property developer Emaar has released new images of how Dubai Mall will look like after the redevelopment and expansion project.

“The new Dubai Mall expansion is a great addition to one of the most visited sites in the world. It reflects Dubai’s ambitious vision to remain at the forefront of global innovation and culture, further solidifying our city’s position as a top global destination,” said Emaar founder Mohammed Alabbar said as he announced the news on Monday (June 3).

Last year, Dubai Mall became the “most visited place on earth” with 105 million visitors, according to Emaar. In 2019, it expanded with the opening of the Dubai Mall Zabeel extension that is linked to the Dubai Mall with a fully-airconditioned bridge. Last year, it opened its Chinatown district with restaurants serving Chinese and Asian food.

Toll gate operator Salik also announced that it will be managing paid parking service at Dubai Mall, which is expected to be rolled out by the third quarter of 2024. According to Salik, mall customers will have ticketless parking and the fee will be automatically charged using vehicle plate recognition. Fees will be deducted from the vehicle owner’s Salik account. ICA/Expat Media
