DUBAI – A 28-year-old Indian man in Dubai who paid Dh25 for a Big Ticket Abu Dhabi ticket has won the Dh15 million grand prize.
Sreenu Sreedharan Nair, a technical worker in Dubai, said he and 21 other colleagues pooled their money to buy the Dh500 ticket to the UAE’s longest running raffle draw. His share amounted to Dh25.
The winning ticket, bought on October 20, was picked from among thousands of tickets during the live draw on Sunday (November 3) at the Abu Dhabi Airport.
Nair almost didn’t get the good news after organisers were not able to contact him during the draw. Why? He apparently gave them the wrong number!
When the Big Ticket team tried to contact Nair through the mobile phone number he listed on his ticket, the person who answered said he didn’t know him.
Thankfully, Nair wrote a second contact number on his ticket, and when contacted by organisers, the person who answered the phone said Nair was not available.
Nair, who makes Dh1,500 per month, said he will be sharing his Dh15 million prize with 21 other colleagues who pitched in to buy the Dh500 ticket.
He will be getting about Dh750,000. The Indian national said he will be using his winnings to complete a house he has been building in Kerala. He also plans to save some of the money. ICA/Expat Media
