Dubai to have drive-through mall, UAE billionaire reveals

Dubai is going to have the first drive-through mall, UAE billionaire and Emaar founder Mohammed Alabbar revealed.

The first-of-its-kind mall in Dubai will allow customers to shop while in an electric car, or drive through instead of walking around the mall to browse for items. The drive-through mall will be located in Dubai Creek Harbor, Alabbar said.

“We are trying something exciting,” he said. “This will be the first time cars can enter a mall so it will be very unique. We did not come up with this ourselves, we learnt it from somewhere.”

The billionaire businessman revealed the details during his talk at the recent Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival 2024.

He also revealed plans for a new tower in Dubai, calling it a “female” Burj Khalifa.  Details here

Alabbar said that Emaar shelved a plan to build a new super tower at Dubai Creek Harbour, calling the idea a “mistake” since surrounding buildings in the development were only 50-storeys high on average.

“We build these towers because we make money out of the apartments that look at the tower. We don’t make any money from the tower,” he explains.

The Creek Tower was originally designed to eclipse the Burj Khalifa and was supposed to be 100 metres taller. Work on the tower was paused for a few years after foundations were laid in 2017. ICA/Expat Media
