The Dubai Court of Appeal has upheld a verdict of three years in jail for six Asians who impersonated Dubai Police officers to rob people in an apartment in the Naif area.

The appeals court also upheld the verdict by the Dubai Court of First Instance sentencing the gang to a fine of Dh18,000 and deportation following their jail term.

The case dates back to September last year when victims in Naif reported to police that the gang posing as policemen broke into their apartment and accused them of running a drug house.

They said that the fake policemen asked for their Emirates ID and then told them to surrender all their money and mobile phones before putting them into a room. The gang then fled with their money and mobile phones.

Investigators were able to identify and track down the gang members near the scene of the crime. During interrogation, one of the gang members claimed to police that they were only trying to recover Dh5,000 that the apartment owner took from his friend. He alleged that the occupants of the apartment were agents who illegally transferred money to their home country. ICA/Expat Media
