Homegrown Asian fusion restaurant Baofriend is opening in Deira soon so you can get your neighbourhood fix of their inventive dishes, from bao buns and rice dishes to desserts.

Baofriend and Taro by Baofriend are located in Flayva, Al Ghurair Centre’s newest “street food hall” which is slated to open on February 16. If Baofriend sounds familiar, you most likely spotted it at Global Village, Ripe Market or their other pop-ups in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It will open a pop-up store in South Plaza, Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi from February 16 to 18.

Meanwhile, Expat Media was invited to the media preview of Flayva where we went on a literal food trip around the world.

First stop, of course, was Baofriend. We tried the spicy fried chicken bao, which came with a black bun. Just the right kind of spicy and savoury with a hint of sweet.

For dessert, we went for the creamy coconut jelly pudding at Taro by Baofriend. The dessert was beautifully served on a whole coconut filled with creamy coconut jelly and topped with toasted coconut flakes.

Whether it’s a quick bite or a leisurely lunch, we guarantee that Baofriend definitely won’t be just a one-bite stand.

4-course business lunch

Meanwhile, at Baofriend’s flagship restaurant in Dubai Silicon Oasis, you can enjoy a special 4-course business lunch throughout February. The business lunch costs Dh89 per person and is available from 11am to 2pm daily. Baofriend’s Dubai Silicon Oasis restaurant is located in A3 building, Dubai Digital Park. ICA/Expat Media
