Abu Dhabi airport renamed as Zayed International Airport

Ahead of the opening of Abu Dhabi’s new Terminal A on November 1, the Abu Dhabi Media Office announced on Tuesday (October 31) that the Abu Dhabi International Airport is being renamed.

The airport will be called Zayed International Airport starting February 9, 2024.

Meanwhile, airlines will begin operating from the new terminal in three phases in the next two weeks, with all 28 airlines to start operating from Terminal A on November 15.

Terminal A will be able to accommodate 79 aircraft at a time, as well as 45 million passengers per year or 11,000 travellers per hour. It will be the first in the world to have nine interconnected biometric systems for passenger screening.

As a leisure hub, Terminal A will have 163 retail, food and beverage outlets, including Starbucks and Jones the Grocer. Brands that have opened up shop in the terminal include Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. The terminal also has a 138-bedroom hotel and two health and beauty spas. ICA/Expat Media
