8 jailed in Dubai for robbing Bur Dubai villa

Eight people were jailed in Dubai and fined for robbing a villa in Bur Dubai.

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced six of the convicts to three years in jail, and two others to one year in jail. Two more convicts were sentenced in absentia to three years in jail. The court ordered the convicts to jointly pay $160,000 (Dh587,200) for theft.

According to records, the group robbed the villa of a European couple in Bur Dubai last November. They broke into three safes and stole money, jewellery and valuable watches.

Police investigators checked CCTV footage and collected evidence to identify and track down the gang. Two vehicles used in the burglary were also identified.

Following their arrest, the gang members confessed to breaking into the villa and stealing valuables. They told police that two gang members, who are still at large, had left the country a day after the theft and took the stolen valuables with them. ICA/Expat Media
