DUBAI – Michael Paul Moogan, one of the UK’s most wanted fugitives, has been arrested in Dubai after evading police for eight years, according to Dubai Police on Sunday (May 9).
Moogan was on the wanted list for his alleged role in a major international drug trafficking plot. He was finally arrested in Dubai on April 21.
The arrest is the result of years of investigation involving law enforcement partners in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) said Moogan, 35, from Liverpool, has been on the run following a raid at a Rotterdam café in 2013.
The café was suspected of being used as a secret meeting spot and operations centre for international drug traffickers. Two British men were arrested during the raid.
Moogan escaped. Dubai Police believe he entered the UAE using a different identity and tried to avoid CCTV to remain untraced.
“Upon receiving a red notice from Interpol, Moogan was placed under intense surveillance and all his movements were monitored by the investigation unit,” said Major Geneneral Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander of criminal investigation affairs at Dubai Police.
Moogan was eventually tracked down and arrested in Dubai. ICA/Expat Media
