UAE weather: Rain, thunder, lightning in Dubai

Rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed Dubai before dawn on Monday (February 12) as unstable weather continued for a second day in the emirates.

The UAE Government has declared Monday to be a special remote work day for federal government employees due to the unstable weather conditions. Public schools will also switch to distance learning for the day.

The National Centre of Meteorology warned of heavy rain, lightning, thunder and hail in some areas of the country until Tuesday. Temperatures are also expected to fall.

In International City and other parts of Dubai, rain of varying intensities has been reported since Sunday morning. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) also recorded rains in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah. The weather bureau issued weather alerts, warning of expected hazardous weather events. Here’s the weather forecast in the next five days:

Monday, February 12

Unstable weather and partly cloudy to cloudy, accompanied by some convective clouds, associated with rainfall of different intensities with lightning and thunder over scattered areas. With a significant decrease in temperatures. Moderate winds, becoming fresh and strong at times with clouds causing blowing dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility. The sea will be rough to very rough at times with cloud activity in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.

Tuesday, February 13

Partly cloudy to cloudy at times with a chance of rainfall over some Northern and Eastern areas during the daytime. Humid by night and Wednesday morning, with a chance of fog or mist formation over some internal and coastal areas especially western areas. Light to moderate Northeasterly to Southeasterly winds, freshening at times with clouds causing blowing dust and sand, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 Km/hr. The sea will be rough by early morning with clouds, becoming moderate to slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

Wednesday, February 14

Fair to partly cloudy at times and temperature tends to rise. Humid by night and Thursday morning, with a probability of mist formation over some coastal areas. Light to moderate Northeasterly to Southeasterly winds, freshening at times, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 35 Km/hr. The sea will be moderate, maybe becoming rough at times by morning in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea.

Thursday, February 15

Fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Humid by night and Friday morning, with a probability of mist formation over some coastal and internal areas. Light to moderate Northeasterly to Southeasterly winds, freshening at times, with a speed of 10 – 20 reaching 35 Km/hr. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea.

Friday, February 16

Fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Humid by night and Saturday morning, with a probability of mist formation over some coastal and internal areas. Light to moderate Northeasterly to Southeasterly winds, freshening at times, with a speed of 10 – 20 reaching 35 Km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
