UAE: Summer begins, longest day of the year on June 21

Summer has officially begun, with Friday (June 21) expected to be the longest day of the year in the UAE, according to the National Centre of Meteorology.

Friday marks summer solstice, with daylight hours to last for 13 hours and 48 minutes, according to Astronomy and Space Sciences.

Temperatures on Friday are forecast to range between 42°C  and 49°C during the day, and 22°C and 31°C at night. Humidity is expected to peak at 90 percent.

The summer season is expected to extend until September 23, with the country expected to experience high temperature and high humidity.

Midday break for outdoor workers

Meanwhile, the UAE’s mandatory midday break for outdoor workers has been enforced beginning June 15. The annual initiative that runs until September 15 bans companies from letting their employees work outdoors from 12:30pm to 3pm daily. Violators will be fined Dh5,000 per worker and a maximum of Dh50,000 in case of multiple violations. ICA/Expat Media
