UAE activities and events expected to be cancelled

In respect of the passing of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, several activities and events across the UAE have been postponed with new dates yet to be announced.

The fifth Cultural Summit Abu Dhabi 2022 organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi, set to be held from May 16 to May 18, has been cancelled and will be rescheduled soon.

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair organizers are yet to announce whether or not the event will push through on May 23 to 29 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.

For Dubai, the Dubai Economy and Tourism (DET) issued an announcement regarding the postponement of entertainment activities including dance and music performances until Tuesday (May 17).

The Dubai Comedy Show featuring Indian comic Vir Das, Comedy Bizarre, and The Laughter Factory which was currently running since May 12 has also cancelled their performances in line with the three-day mourning period.

May 13 to 16 shows of the Dubai Opera are likewise suspended.

The contemporary Hindi comedy play Naatak ‘22 scheduled to take place in Dubai on Sunday (May 15) was also cancelled and is to be rescheduled until further notice.

Dubai’s first street food block party Break the Block also postponed the May 13 and 14 launching.

For Sharjah, the Sharjah House of Wisdom will suspend its activities while the Sharjah Reading Festival will resume all its cultural events and exhibitions on Tuesday (May 17).

In terms of sports, the fixtures of the ADNOC Pro League and the U-21 Pro League have been suspended by the UAE Pro League and UAE Football Association for three days.

The ADNOC Pro League match week 24 will be held on May 17, then on May 21 and 22 will be the match week 25, and finally, the match week 26 is set on May 28 and 29. KSO/Expat Media
