UAE President declares 2023 as the ‘Year of Sustainability’

The year 2023 is officially designated the “Year of Sustainability” by President Sheikh Mohamed.

The UAE leader stated online that by hosting Cop28, the country would continue to foster innovation in the sustainability industry.

“2023 is the Year of Sustainability in the UAE,” said Sheikh Mohamed.

“Effective climate action requires a shared vision and collective will.”

“As host of Cop28, we are committed to fulfilling our role as a global convener and will continue to support action and innovation in the field of sustainability.”

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE’s special envoy on climate change, said on Friday that the proclamation underlines the UAE’s commitment to promoting sustainability.

“The UAE has long maintained that the principles of sustainability must be incorporated into every sector of the economy,” he said in a statement.

The ‘Year of Sustainability’ will culminate at Cop28, the year’s most important climate event, which will be held at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12.

The announcement comes a day after the conclusion of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which brought together heads of state, industry executives, entrepreneurs, investors, senior policymakers, and young people from around the world to debate sustainability projects and climate action.

The week of events laid the groundwork for the Cop28 climate conference, which aims to spur decisive action toward a net-zero future. BKM/ Expat Media
