The Ruler of Sharjah has approved plans to construct a new market for pets and animals in Sharjah.
The new animal market, which will also feature a bird market, will be located next to Souq Al Jubail in Sharjah City.
Construction of the animal market is expected to take 15 months, said Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Public Works Department and Member of Sharjah Executive Council.
Al Suwaidi said a tender for the project is being put forward to select the contractor. He said that the two-storey market will have Islamic designs and will be airconditioned.
The market will feature pets and domesticated animals and ornamental fish. Al Suwaidi said the market will be a tourist attraction and landmark along the Sharjah Creek and Khalid Lagoon.
The ground floor will have shops for pets and domesticated animals, while the upper floor will be for bird stores and animal supplies. It will also have large outdoor yard with green spaces for bird breeders to have shows and auctions.
Al Suwaidi explained that the market would include an interactive hollow dome that simulates the architectural style of the building and serves the movement of birds in place, in addition to a glass-covered tropical park under its main dome. ICA/Expat Media
