UAE: Man ordered to pay ex-wife Dh10,000 to cover their baby’s medical bills

An Abu Dhabi resident has been ordered to reimburse his ex-wife for the Dh10,000 she spent caring for their premature child.

According to official court documents, the woman sued her ex-husband. She said that due to the potential for problems and chronic disease, doctors had recommended that she terminate the pregnancy early.

The mother spent Dh10,000 on the baby’s medical care after she was delivered prematurely and spent many months in an incubator. The mother’s insurance provider declined to cover the child’s medical expenses.

Due to family issues, the couple divorced when the wife was pregnant. When the woman asked her ex-husband to pay for the medical fees for his child, he refused, saying he didn’t have any money. She had to find another way to pay the hospital expense, and she ultimately sued him.

After hearing from both parties, the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Court ordered the man to reimburse his ex-wife for the Dh10,000 she had spent on their child’s medical care. The man was also told to pay for his ex-wife’s legal expenses. BKM/ Expat Media
