Freelancers, self-employed may now apply for 5-year residency

In an effort to draw skilled workers and investors from all over the world, UAE has established the five-year Green Visa as a component of a framework of new regulations.

The new 5-year Green Residence Visa will be targeted at exceptional talents, skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs. This move intends to increase job market flexibility and attract extraordinary individuals across all disciplines.

Criteria for application

— Have secured a Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) freelance work permit.
— A bachelor’s degree, a specialist certification, or an equivalent is the required level of education.
— For the previous two years, the self-employment income per year was at least Dh360,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies.


— Demonstrating financial stability during the entire period of residence in the UAE.


— A Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) freelance employment visa.
– Documentation proving a Dh360,000 annual income over the past two years.


— Certification of your ability to pay your bills during your stay.

How to apply

Applications for Green Visas may be submitted online at in accordance with the policies of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP).
