UAE fines 40 illegal vendors on wheels

A total of 40 illegal vendors in Ras Al Khaimah have been fined and have been referred to the Public Prosecution for selling food items without a permit, according to the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Development on Sunday (January 15).

Faisal Abdullah Al Olayoun, director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department at the Department of Economic Development in Ras Al Khaimah, said the illegal vendors sold fruits and vegetables in their vehicles.

The vehicles are usually parked on the roadside, with the vendors hoping to attract passers-by with their produce stacked in the back of their vehicle. Authorities have repeatedly warned the public against buying from illegal vendors, saying that because the goods are from an unknown origin, it poses a threat to public health and safety.

The fine for illegal street vendors is Dh5,000. Al Olayoun said that repeat violators will have their vehicle confiscated and the fine doubled to Dh10,000. ICA/Expat Media
